Steph Curry’s Lingering Knee Issue Is Much Worse Than We All Thought

Who’d have thought the Warriors would be here? On the brink of elimination after a second straight comprehensive beatdown in Oklahoma City, the Dubs are looking for answers about how things went so wrong and how to set them right. One answer to their struggles that’s staring us all right in the face isn’t exactly easily remedied, however — Steph Curry’s knee, which is reportedly worse than we all assumed and affecting Steph’s game, according to Adrian Wojnarowski:

Curry has been a shell of himself – missing shots, throwing away passes, losing his dribble, and completely unable to prove that there’s Curry-esque agility in that knee. “He’s playing at 70 percent, at best,” a source close to Curry told The Vertical. Curry refuses to make excuses, but privately the Thunder see something – no explosion, no ability to make the bigs switching onto him pay a price. Twenty points on 19 shots Tuesday night bore no resemblance to the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player.

Every prediction that the Warriors would coast to the NBA Finals and back-to-back titles operated under the spoken or unspoken assumption that their core players would remain healthy. The Warriors still have time to correct course, and need better performances out of Klay Thompson and Draymond Green especially, but there’s a reason Curry was the MVP. Without him in peak form, it seems like Golden State might be just another team.
