Why Did Tony Parker Examine Gregg Popovich For A Wire Along The Sideline?

This is pretty funny, and we even saw Gregg Popovich chuckle between the third and fourth quarters of a tight game against an inferior opponent on the road, so that transforms this into one of those laughing so hard I’m crying emojis the kids use now instead of actually freaking laughing.

Anyhoo, here’s what we’re talking about. With the Spurs leading 70-65 at the end of the third quarter in Monday’s game against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden, Tony Parker approached his coach. Before launching into whatever tactical discussion likely followed, Parker checked his coach for a bug. No, seriously, it’s like he’s Robert Redford in Sneakers or Avon after one of his shipments got pinched.

Now, a little background to explain why Tony might’ve done this. Often gruff Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has actually gotten mic’d up by the NBA before. Monday’s game was at MSG (basketball mecca to most) early in the season against a Knicks team some analysts actually think might make the playoffs (we’ll see how they fare against the Cavs on Wednesday night). So, it’s conceivable Pop was wearing a mic for the Association.

But it’s also possible Popovich said something so ridiculous to Tony before he launched into his spiel, the Spurs PG had to check to make sure his coach wasn’t playing a practical joke on him. Tony has been around for a long time, and his teammates aren’t immune to a little fun mid-season.

Despite the fact he wasn’t mic’d up, Popovich really should be for every game.

The Spurs did go on to win, 94-84, but we’re still wondering what the hell prompted Tony to check his coach like that before their chat.
