Wisconsin’s Buzzer Beating Three-Pointer To Beat Xavier Capped Off A Ridiculous First Weekend

If you needed any further reminder that it’s March, Wisconsin’s Bronson Koenig hit a buzzer-beater three to beat Xavier 66-63. It wasn’t from half-court, but it was still a damn hard shot from the corner after a timeout with two seconds left. After a day of games that were largely over by halftime, it’s great to see the night caps restored the madness.

In a back and forth game (biggest lead for either team was nine), #7-seed Wisconsin and #2-seed Xavier were playing for the chance to face Notre Dame in the Sweet 16. Hero of the night Koenig scored 20 points and showed that shooters shoot, making the final shot to wind up 6 for 12 behind the arc.

But that’s what it takes in the tournament sometimes. Few teams have absolute world-beaters they can always depend on to make the basket and sometimes you just have to flip the coin. Tonight it worked out for Koenig and now he’ll soon find himself whispered about in Wisconsin lore. You know, kind of like Frank Kaminsky:

If it’s good enough to get Frank the Tank excited, you can only imagine the type of excitement it caused back on campus. See you next round, ‘sconnie.
