WNBA Star Elena Delle Donne Comes Out As Gay In A New ‘Vogue’ Story

If you don’t know who Elena Delle Donne is, you should. She’s one of the best women’s basketball players in the world, the 2015 WNBA MVP with the Chicago Sky, and a member of the U.S. women’s national team that’s getting ready to compete in Rio.

Delle Donne revealed in an upcoming story in Vogue that she is gay.

The announcement was pretty casual, according to OutSports.com, which got an early copy of the story that isn’t yet online.

“Elena divides her time between traveling with her team, the Chicago Sky, and her family’s home in the rolling green landscape of Wilmington, Delaware. She and her fiancee, Amanda Clifton, keep apartments in both Chicago and Wilmington.”

That’s the whole announcement — a single sentence in a much longer and more in-depth story about her. Delle Donne and her fianceé have shared plenty of pictures of themselves on Instagram.

Delle Donne is far from the first WNBA player to come out, but she’s among the most high-profile (the other being Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner). It’s getting to the point where announcements like this aren’t a big deal anymore, which is great.
