Twenty years ago, Forrest Gump was released. Yours truly didn’t get a chance to catch it in theaters, since I was but a babe, but you can bet your bubba gump ass I burned through that VHS. Why, because I don’t know, that’s why! It’s not a good movie—though it did beat both Pulp Fiction and Shawshank Redemption for best picture—but I can’t help myself. I’ll quote it, I’ll watch it, and I’ll remember it forever. Such is the power of nostalgia. Piercing through that emotional haze, then yes, it’s pretty much a movie about mentally challenged guy who’s blissfully manipulated by his friends, lover, and country. Hey, at least we got that dope Frank Ocean song.
