Apparently Avatar was more productive than me this weekend, though I’m quite adamant with my roommates that I could have sold that ounce for a whole lot less. Earning an additional $36 million since Friday, James Cameron’s Avatar has officially trumped Warner Bros. The Dark Knight as the second-highest earner ever at the U.S. box office, with a grand total of $533.3 million. Already taking the top dog position internationally ($1.84 billion worldwide), domestically there now stands only one film that has ever earned more:
Weekend at Bernie’s Titanic.
[Variety] “Having been a part of the ‘Titanic’ phenomenon, we never thought this day would come in our careers,” said Fox Intl. co-prexys Paul Hanneman and Tomas Jegeus (as they swam laps inside of Scrooge McDuck’s vault –Ed.). “But James Cameron created in ‘Avatar’ a film with such humanity and magic that it resonates with people of every culture.”
Good Lord, sorry “guy in d–khead hat” but I think it’s safe to say that Cameron has earned the right for you to get the f–k out of his personal space. When the fastest kid at the track meet straddles both the first and second step of the awards podium, I think it’s time to just accept the situation and reflect on the fact that your mother’s boyfriend, once again, has forgotten to pick you up.
