Eddie Murphy And Paramount Are Making Another 'Beverly Hills Cop' Movie

In news that I must have set my brain’s news filter to ignore at all costs, the much-hyped pilot for a Beverly Hills Cop TV series was actually passed on by the decision-makers at CBS, which means that they simply thought it wasn’t good enough to pair with something as powerful as Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar playing a father-son ad agency team. Oh well, maybe NBC will pick up the Brandon T. Jackson project before canceling it after three episodes.

But in the meantime, Paramount and Eddie Murphy believe that the aforementioned hype meant that people are desperate to have some more Axel Foley in their lives, because they have put that long-mouth-farted-about fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie on the fast track. Please, won’t someone throw down a tire spike?

The studio has enlisted Eddie Murphy to reprise his role as Axel Foley, and they’ve set Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec to write that script.

We hear the newest installment in the film franchise was fueled by the interest sparked by the Beverly Hills Cop pilot this past season. The project, written by Shawn Ryan and executive produced by Murphy and Ryan, ignited a bidding war before landing at CBS last fall where it went to a pilot starring Brandon T. Jackson as Axel’s son. Murphy reprised his role in a scene-stealing turn that had people talking. It showed that the character and Murphy’s portrayal are still pretty potent. (Via Deadline)

You know what would remind people that the character and Murphy’s portrayal aren’t still pretty potent? Showing them Beverly Hills Cop 3. Because that movie was pretty awful. And I’m not just saying that because I’m filled with caramel and hate. People really loathed that movie.

In fact, I still think the best part was when George Lucas made a cameo in a sweater that revealed what he ate for lunch.
