Tonight at 9 PM ET on HBO, the network’s fall documentary series continues with a look at the woman billed as “The Original Queen of Comedy,” Moms Mabley, as presented by Whoopi Goldberg. Mabley’s story is the stuff of legends, as the female comic has influenced some of the greatest standup comics of all-time, and those same comics have gone on to influence all of the hilarious men and women that we celebrate today. Her comedy was always among the edgiest and most topical of its time, and she certainly deserves to be discussed among the greatest comics of any generation.
Joining Goldberg in this documentary are Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy, Kathy Griffin and others, as they reflect on her influences on modern comedy and the all-around genius of her career. I assume that Carlos Mencia wasn’t asked because he’s just too busy working on his killer new “White House lawn” routine.
