Jackass 3D is biggest fall opening EVER

Jackass 3D grossed $50 million over the weekend, making it the biggest September-October opening ever, more than doubling its $20 million budget.  The previous record holder was Scary Movie 3, with $48.1 million.  Of course, tickets to 3D movies cost more, so in terms of actual attendance, Jackass didn’t break the top ten.   And now you know why Hollywood makes 3D movies.  But it was still a bigger opening than the last two Jackass movies, and good for them.  I saw it, I loved it, and I could watch Bam getting hit with that giant hand at least 500 more times.  However, I’m not a stuck-up c*nt, so to me, this news doesn’t spell the end of Western Civilization like it does for a lot of the rest of the internet.  Assorted comments from Deadline:

…And we wonder why our country is going down the toilet…

…Can’t wait to hear how many morons wound up in the hospital or the morgue the next day after seeing this garbage.

…THE REALLY funny thing about this movie … Is that it IS actually a movie! That’s what everybody is laughing at. Crap isn’t funny – but the fact that they let this crap exist on a big screen … Now THAT”S funny!

…And the fact that they find Jackass’ faeces jokes amusing just shows they are not even picky about what constitutes ‘entertainment’.

Stupid people tend to forget that film didn’t start as a narrative medium.  The first things people saw in theaters weren’t stories, it was “hey look, a big train coming at your face!”  That is to say, it was a spectacle. So if you’re one of those people who can look at a guy willing to get run over by a buffalo for your amusement with a frown on your face and your arms folded, it doesn’t make you some great defender of a grand tradition, it just makes you an *sshole*.

Sidenote: Is it just me, or does this Jackass 3D ad from Facebook look like it’s for a gay party line?
