Veteran television director Michelle MacLaren was announced as the official choice to direct Wonder Woman at Warner Bros. It would have been MacLaren’s feature film debut — if she was still the director five months on. According to THR, MacLaren and Warner Bros. have parted ways for the usual Hollywood reason: “creative differences.”

“Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together,”  the studio, said, in a statement.

This isn’t the first time a high profile female director has left a superhero tentpole. Remember when Patti Jenkins left Thor: The Dark World back in 2011?

No word on whether or not MacLaren’s departure will affect Wonder Woman‘s scheduled release in 2017. Hopefully it doesn’t, though it’s a major bummer for DC Comics fans hoping for an expansive rumor a la Marvel’s many phases.
