Original 'Superman' Producer Ilya Salkind Wasn't Very Impressed With 'Man Of Steel'

It’s not often that we give credit to TMZ cameramen for asking good questions, having a decent amount of knowledge on any particular subject or simply not coming off as knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing instigators. (You know, like bloggers with video cameras.) But I have to give credit to the TMZ brotog who caught up with Superman I and II producer Ilya Salkind over the weekend in Los Angeles and playfully grilled him about his thoughts on Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Hell, I give him credit for even know what Salkind looks like.

To Salkind’s credit, he doesn’t seem to hate Man of Steel as much as he’s just not impressed by it, but he’s simply a different kind of producer from a different era of comic book movies, so when he admitted that Man of Steel was a little too dark for his tastes, it makes sense. Hey, at least he didn’t say that it needed a giant spider.

The woman shouting, “Tell the truth!” does make me think that if you get a few (more) gimlets in him, Salkind might be willing to open up and really let us know how he feels about it. “It’s way too long and the resolution between Kal-El and Zod didn’t make a lot of sense, because you’re kind of like, ‘Wait, he can just do that and it’s over?’ and why the hell was young Clark wearing a cape when he was playing if kids in reality only ever did that to mimic Superman?” is what I’d imagine he might say.

[Editor’s Note: That Bette Midler seems to agree was too important not to include.]
