Very Lucky Disney Shareholders Were Treated To The First Footage Of ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’

Friday was a great day for Disney shareholders who also happen to be huge Star Wars fans. After dispensing with business as usual, Bob Iger, the CEO of the Walt Disney Company, treated everyone in attendance at the annual shareholders meeting in Chicago to clips from the company’s upcoming films, because what better way to tell them that the stock will keep going up in value than by offering them a little taste of some surefire blockbusters?

Arguably the most important clip that was played came from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the upcoming standalone film directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Mads Mikkelsen, and Alan Tudyk, among others. Set to hit theaters and earn a ton of money on December 16, the film tells the story of a team of rebels that attempts to steal the Death Star’s plans, and as Iger told the shareholders it takes place right before the events of A New Hope.

Cool details aside, what we are all dying for is a little hit of the sugar, okay? While the rest of us Star Wars fans won’t get a look until Captain America: Civil War hits theaters, one /film reader at least provided the world with a synopsis of what Iger was pushing.

Most of it was very quick. A shot of the black stormtrooper, possibly called Death Troopers as previously reported, another pic of that same style of helmet and armor but all chrome, reminiscent of Captain Phasma from The Force Awakens, an image showed two AT-ATs that had a slightly different look with the door panel on the side of the body painted a lighter beige color. And a couple cast photos were shown, one of Felicity & Diego Luna and another of Donnie Yen. The clip featured Felicity’s character on what looked like the inside of a ship or shuttle with her arm up holding on and the hatch/ramp open behind her. I wish I could remember what she said as part of the sizzle but it went by too fast. The new stormtroopers looked great.

The witness added that the clip had “a classic Star Wars/A New Hope look & feel,” which means that we’re in for a little more nostalgia this time around. That is, unless you thought that The Force Awakens was too much like A New Hope, in which case maybe you’ll have more to complain about.

In addition to the Rogue One footage, Iger also showed off a clip for Captain America: Civil War and a Doctor Strange sizzle reel. Lucky jerks.
