‘Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ May Be Remastered For Modern Consoles

Love it or hate it, the Call of Duty franchise defined the last generation of consoles, and it’s still a blockbuster every single year. And it all started with the game that took the combat out of past wars and into current ones, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. If, somehow, you never played it, it appears you’ll be in luck.

The original game set much of what we know about the franchise: The level design that moves from setpiece to setpiece, the Tom Clancy-ish plotting, and of course, shooting at people with modern weapons. Back in 2007 — yes, this game is nearly a decade old — the attempt to use near-future geopolitics as a setting was rare, to say the least, but the real surprise was the multiplayer mode, which kept people coming back well after they’d finished the original campaign.

Keeping with recent Call of Duty procedure, where they pack as many games as possible into one disc, a leak of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare‘s preorder bonuses would seem to indicate that game ships with a free copy of Modern Warfare. The key art leak was only for the PS4 copy of the game, but, provided it’s not an elaborate fake, it seems unlikely this would be a PS4 exclusive. It’s not like Activision is allergic to money, after all. This does raise one question, though: Will players on Infinite Warfare be able to access Modern Warfare‘s classic maps? Because really, nothing quite beat gunning your way through Pripyat. We’ll likely find out at E3, ahead of the game’s November release.
