Things Get Dark In The Live-Action ‘Mechanical Apartheid’ Trailer For ‘Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’

Warning: This post contains some spoilers for Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

The latest live-action trailer for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided doesn’t contain any new gameplay footage, but it’s surprisingly well-produced and does a great job of showing what’s going on in the game’s world. In the last Deus Ex game, the world was split between regular people and those who have received biomechanical enhancements, with society generally favoring those who have augmented themselves in some way. Unfortunately, at the end of the game, a shadowy organization sends out a signal that forces anybody with enhancements to go berserk, leading to widespread death and destruction.

In Deus Ex: Mankind Divided the balance of power has flipped, and now the enhanced folk are the ones shunned by society. People look at their own loved ones with suspicion, and the augmented are being rounded up and segregated into camps. Of course, Deus Ex protagonist Adam Jensen has more enhancements than almost anybody alive, so he’s not going to have an easy go of it in this new world.

Based on this new trailer, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided certainly isn’t shying away from edgy subject matter, which is exactly as it should be. Deus Ex has always been a slightly smarter breed of action game.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided infiltrates shelves August 23.
