Bethesda Says Sony Forced Them To Cancel Mods For The PS4 Versions Of ‘Fallout 4’ And ‘Skyrim’

Typically one of perks of playing a big RPG like Fallout 4 on PC is the ability to mod the game to include Macho Man Deathclaws, the cast of Suicide Squad and other assorted wackiness. Ah, but this time Bethesda promised to let console gamers in on the fun! Mods officially came to the Xbox One version of Fallout 4 way back in May, but for some reason PS4 players were left waiting… and waiting… and waiting.

Well, bad news Playstation owners – today Bethesda officially announced they’re canceling mods for the PS4 version of Fallout 4. They also preemptively canned mods for the upcoming PS4 Skyrim remaster. Perhaps even more surprisingly, Bethesda outright placed the blame for this cancellation on Sony…

“After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.”

Between the rather mixed reaction to the Playstation 4 Pro and its various limitations and this Fallout 4 mess, it hasn’t been a banner week for Sony PR. Hopefully Sony sees the error of their ways, lightens their restrictions and lets PS4 Fallout 4 players in on the fun.
