Hassan Whiteside Loses It After His Opponent Quits During An ‘NBA 2K’ Game

Hassan Whiteside takes his NBA 2K seriously. Very seriously. We know this because after a triple-double against the Bulls in 2015, when he was still emerging as an NBA player on a minimum deal with the Miami Heat after years of obscurity overseas, he told ESPN’s Heather Cox that he was just trying to improve his 2K player rating.

Whiteside did that, and he has been spending this offseason further honing his 2K skills. Apparently, though, he doesn’t take kindly to people quitting in the middle of a game. Whiteside flipped out when his friend ended their game prematurely, and posted the video of his reaction. He was not happy to have the game cut short.

Honestly, it’s pretty understandable to be upset in this situation. Quitting in the middle of the game (presumably because you’re losing) is something you do when you’re 6 years old. It isn’t really acceptable beyond that petulant age. Whiteside has put in so much work on the court to get his 2K rating up, and he was rewarded this summer with a max deal to stay in Miami. He didn’t go through all that only to have someone quit on him during a 2K battle. He deserves better.
