The ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ Beta: Everything You Need To Know

EA has just announced that, ahead of its Nov. 17 release date, Star Wars: Battlefront will be receiving a public beta. It’s gotten a lot of casual fans interested, so, for the sake of those confused, here’s what you need to know.

First off, the open beta rolls out in early October on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It’ll feature the map Walker Assault on Hoth, which is more or less the opening of The Empire Strikes Back, and is a 40-player all-out assault, and Survival Mission on Tatooine, where you and another player team up to kill waves of Imperial scum. The Hoth map will also let you play as Darth Vader or Luke. You’ll also get access to a new mode, Drop Zone, but EA’s being coy about that for now.

Also tied to it is an app — the Star Wars Battlefront Companion. Said app is tied to the game so you can track your stats, and also play a “strategic card game” called Base Command. You know, because Star Wars fans don’t have enough digital card apps to manage. Anyway, Base Command will earn you points that unlock goodies inside Battlefront, although it’s not clear if said goodies will carry over to the actual game once the beta ends.

If you’d like to try your hand at it, you’ll likely just need to sign up once EA opens the beta; it doesn’t appear tied to any pre-orders or anything along those lines. Now, of course, the question becomes who gets dibs on the AT-AT.
