Nintendo
When Nintendo discontinued the totally awesome, immensely popular MiniNES, a $60 adorably miniature version of the classic NES preloaded with 30 games, it seemed to make no damn sense. It was rumored to be discontinued because Nintendo didn’t want it to compete with their $300 Switch (which, again, makes no damn sense).
If a report from Eurogamer is correct, Nintendo had another, more acceptable reason to discontinue it: So they could focus on producing a miniature Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). More like SNE-yes. (I’m sorry.)
The mini SNES is reportedly planned to hit shelves in time for holiday gift giving this year. Like the MiniNES, it will reportedly be plug-and-play with a collection of pre-loaded games. No word yet on which games, but come on. It’s gotta have Super Mario World, A Link to the Past, and Donkey Kong Country. Or I will fight them.
Since the MiniNES was apparently intended as a Christmas 2016 novelty gift, the mini SNES may be discontinued soon after the new year. This also raises the question: Why can’t we have both the MiniNES and a mini SNES? Why discontinue them as long as they’re still flying off shelves? Oh well, at least the Famicom Mini is supposed to come back.

Sorry, Nintendo. I won’t get fooled again. I’m still not convinced that the NES Classic Edition actually exists. Let me know when you start making consoles that will actually be available in stores.
They were available in stores. Check the thousands that are available on eBay right now. People stalk brick and mortar and buy them all as soon as they come in. At least some are value added with several hundred additional games moded onto them, but the average consumer isn’t playing on a fair playing field because they have jobs and ethics.
@Heynowhank
I think thats the joke
I’ll just stick with the 100% free method of downloading an emulator and ROMs.
B-B-B-BUT THAT’S ILLEGAL, THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!
jk, Pi or Die.
I still have my SNES and games so you can gtfo Nintendo.
I am disappointed in the NES Classic roll out. I checked stores and it was never available. I’m not going to pay a ransom for it either.
Retail stores need to address the problem of scalpers because the same problem happened with the Switch. Impossible to find in stores, but widely available on ebay and Craigslist for a hefty markup over retail cost.
Limiting one per customer would be a good start.
Why does a retail store care if a scalper or a non scalper buys it? All they care about is selling their stock.
I’m down
Pfft, call me when they release the Mini Virtual Boy.
I could be suckered into buying one with the right game lineup.
*heavy breathing*
Maybe this time they will let people pre-order it so they can gauge how interested people are in getting one. But just in case, let me save them some time: EVERYONE WILL WANT ONE, MAKE A TON OF THEM SO SCALPERS CAN’T PRICE GOUGE.
please don’t call it a $60 item as it was impossible to find it for less than double that.
