Deadline reports Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to join director Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. No word yet on which role he’d play, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for William Tockman. A lot of idiots will speculate he’s going to do a Heath Ledger impression and play the joker; Nolan has already told THR that the Joker would not be returning, nor would any old footage be brought back for the next film.
There’s a long-standing rumor that Gordon-Levitt might be considered for the Riddler. They did bring up Edward Nashton (Riddler’s birth name) in the viral marketing for a previous film: a newspaper clipping of Edward Nashton’s letter to the editor saying Harvey Dent shouldn’t be trusted. (Why do I know this? I am a gigantic nerd.) However, Nolan told HeroComplex last October that the villain would not be the Riddler. In other words, I have no idea who Gordon-Levitt would be playing.
