The CW has a lot of confidence in its budding DC TV universe; The Flash is a huge hit, and Arrow is going strong in its third season. And it looks like the third show, variously called The Atom or Legends of Tomorrow, will join the lineup, as it’s skipping the pilot stage altogether.
Screen Rant, digging for tidbits in a Victor Garber interview, stumbled over said actor noting that the show is filming in August and will be going straight to series; The CW intends to roll it out at the beginning of 2016. He also noted we’ll get the full details, including what the title might actually be, during the upfronts for The CW on May 14.
If this is true, and Garber would know because he’s a main cast member, it’s fairly intriguing. It seems like this will be a shorter series that runs while The Flash and Arrow aren’t on the air, similar to how Agent Carter filled in for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It’ll also free up the cast to go into crossover episodes, which the shows seem to particularly love doing. Mostly, I’ll be curious to see how they handle the pretty bizarre cast, which so far we know features two villains, a rakish time traveler, Brandon Routh stubbornly refusing to shrink, half of Firestorm, a woman who’s either a reincarnated Egyptian or a bird alien, and Caity Lotz, who got bumped off during Arrow‘s season premiere. That’s an… eclectic mix, to put it mildly, so we’ll see how it comes together.
