‘It’s Not A Disaster’ And Other Ringing Endorsements Of ‘Fantastic Four’

Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four is opening Friday, and they’re even getting Deadpool to promote it. Also a factor in the promotional strategy is granting interviews with people involved, assuring everyone that the rumors about trouble with the director and necessary re-shoots are overblown. And so writer-producer Simon Kinberg once again denies the rumors, this time to Entertainment Weekly:

“It’s not a disaster. It’s a good movie.”

I had to use that quote first, out of context, because it would make me laugh if that were the pull quote for a “what critics are saying” TV spot.

“We came in on schedule, under budget, [with] a movie that was pretty true to the original intent of the film. Whether people like it or not, it was [Josh Trank’s] vision, which was a more grounded, a much more real version of Fantastic Four. Was it an easy production? No. Was it harder than a lot of the movies I’ve been on? No. But I may also have a higher threshold. I think there was something about Josh’s identity that made him a good target. I’m not sure what that is.”

Well, that’s cryptic.

Other opinions of the film — which were more reassuring than “It’s not a disaster.” — have hit Twitter after an early screening from the film. CBM collected some of these positive reviews, but we wanted to focus on just the guy who was giving some mild spoilers.

To summarize, if you don’t want to read the tweets below, the Negative Zone is a prominent feature in the film, there was a hint about Tim Blake Nelson’s character eventually becoming Mole Man, and the classic blue costumes are going to show up eventually (GET THAT THING SOME PANTS).
