Supergirl is promising, but, at the same time, it’s got some pretty big shoes to fill. After all, Superman doesn’t just punch stuff, he’s got laser eyes and other powers. Plus, you know, there are villains. Fortunately, the new trailer is basically an effects reel that shows off both the superpowers and who will be on the receiving end.
We also learn the basic premise of the series, which is that a space jail crashed to Earth and all the supervillains scattered. Thus, it’s up to Kara, because we all know what her cousin is like, to save the Earth from energy-blasting mooks and what sure looks like a Predator. Seriously, look at this guy:
That’s totally a Predator. He’s going to be looking for his shoulder-mounted blaster in his episode.
Joking aside, the effects look quite good, which is pretty important, although Kara seems to have been infected with Non-Secret Identity Disease, where half the cast learns who she is for no particularly good reason. She, Ollie, and Barry should form a support group. Although I guess dragging out the will-she-or-won’t-she with the inevitable Kara-Jimmy-Toyman triangle is at least preferable to it being a plot point well past any need for it.
How will Supergirl fare against space criminals? We’ll find out October 26.
