Ridley Scott Reveals New Plot Details And A Possible 2016 Release Date For ‘Alien: Paradise Lost’

As we recently learned, Ridley Scott’s upcoming Prometheus 2 has a new name, and much closer ties to the Alien franchise than we previously thought. The movie’s new title is Alien: Paradise Lost, and, according to Scott, it’s going to be tackling to origins of the Alien franchise’s xenomorphs head on.

“We’re heading back to why and how and when the beast was invented. We’ll go back in to the backdoor of the very first Alien that I did 30 years ago.”

Exciting stuff! Even more exciting, we may not have long to wait before the next Alien movie bursts onto movie screens. In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Scott provided a timeline for both he and Neill Blomkamp’s Alien projects…

“I’m actually going to be working again with Michael Fassbender in February on Prometheus 2. It’s written, so I’m not chugging along and trying to work out where we’re going to do it. With something like that, it’s six-month prep. We’re going to call it Alien: Paradise Lost. We’re getting closer and closer to the creation of the beasts—how and why they were created—and the first Alien film that I made over thirty years ago. And we have Neill Blomkamp’s Alien, which will be out in 2017. We just have the first screenplay in so far but it looks pretty good.”

If Blomkamp’s Alien is coming out in 2017, and Scott starts filming next February, that definitely seems to point to a late 2016 release date for Alien: Paradise Lost. Everything could get pushed back, of course, but for now, we’ve got two Alien-packed years ahead of us.

Scott also revealed a couple new Alien: Paradise Lost plot tidbits, including the fact that the movie will feature an all new group of victims, er, I mean, crew members.

“It’s going to be it’s own separate thing because they are going to the planet of the Engineers and they are going to see what happened there. It was a disaster. And they will be in that alien craft that takes them there, but with a new group that’s incoming, a new group of travelers in the beginning of the first act.”

It’s certainly an interesting time to be a Aliens fan — two movies in two years from a series than usually only delivers a new movie every five to 10 years. Let’s hope they can keep this ship on course.
