Not only is actor Mark Ruffalo going to reprise the roles of Dr. Bruce Banner and the Hulk in Marvel‘s upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, but he’s also advocating for the two characters to share a scene together. In fact, it would almost seem as if he wants the two to no longer be one and the same person. Wait, what?

During an event in New York hosted by GQ, Huffington Post caught up with Ruffalo and asked him about the recent casting news. The actor initially laughed off the question, saying “I play Dr. Bruce Banner, and occasionally I turn into a big green, mean monster.” Yet when pressed further, Ruffalo opened up about the dueling roles, and what he hopes to do with both in the third Thor film.

“I am excited to keep coming back to this role. I see a lot of space for it to grow,” he said. “I feel like there’s a lot of cool stuff to explore still, especially the relationship between Banner and Hulk. Hopefully, we’ll see the two of them in a scene together. That would be cool!”

Marvel Comics aficionados will already know that, despite how crazy the prospect of seeing Banner and the Hulk onscreen at the same time seems, it has happened before. The character Doc Samson successfully separated the two from one another in The Incredible Hulk #315, resulting in an even madder version of the big guy whose rage no longer had the calming cap afforded by Banner’s cooler demeanor.

This is all speculation on Ruffalo’s part, of course, as the actor doesn’t actually know what he’s doing in Thor: Ragnarok yet. (That, or he isn’t telling anyone.) Still, the prospect of seeing Dr. Banner face off with the Hulk in a Marvel film — whether in reality or some kind of Asgardian-induced dreamscape — would be incredible.
