Ronda Rousey’s ‘Captain Marvel’ Campaign Has A Fan In Marvel Boss Kevin Feige

The internet was #blessed with fan art of Ronda Rousey as Captain Marvel after she revealed her interest in playing the hero during a Reddit AMA. She later posted some of the fan art to her Instagram. Being that Marvel head Kevin Feige is making the rounds to promote today’s release of Avengers: Age of Ultron on Blu-ray, IGN asked him about Ronda Rousey, and it’s about time. That should just be a boilerplate question for all interviews: “Please talk about Ronda Rousey for a few minutes.”

Regarding her Captain Marvel campaign, Feige said, “I love it.” When asked about her acting experience — The Expendables 3, Furious 7, Entourage, the upcoming Road House reboot, and hopefully all of these — Feige cited Dave Bautista (Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy) as someone in the Marvel stable better known for athletics than for acting.

“You look at the ways we’ve cast our films in the past and it’s always about who’s the best person to inhabit the character, whether that is an actor like Chris Hemsworth who bulks up, or a wrestler like Dave Bautista who played Drax who ends up being an amazing performer, an amazing actor and a clever and witty and pointed comedic actor. For us, it’s sitting down with people and starting to meet people and as the script takes shape and as we start to build who the character should be and finding the right person to match it up.”

He added that Captain Marvel won’t be cast until next year (the film opens November 2, 2018), so that gives us plenty of time to speculate about casting and to photoshop Ronda Rousey into various Captain Marvel panels then print them out, iron them onto sweatshirts, and embellish them with puffy glitter paint, which I am totally not doing right now.
