Between Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston, Marvel’s Thor movies certainly aren’t hurting for top-notch acting talent; and it sounds like the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok may be adding another Oscar-winner to its cast.

According to Variety, Marvel Studios is trying to nab Cate Blanchett for a major role. Rumors that Marvel is interested in Blanchett have been floating around for a while, but it seems the two have now officially entered talks. Blanchett has been a staple of the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit movies, but she’s never been in a superhero movie for Marvel or Warner Bros.

Currently, there’s no word on who Marvel wants Blanchett to play, but word has it Thor: Ragnarok will introduce the superheroine Valkyrie, as well as a new female villain (most likely the powerful Enchantress). It seems likely Marvel would want a younger actress for Valkyrie, so the smart money is on Blanchett going the villainous route. An alluring, all-powerful sorceress is certainly Blanchett’s wheelhouse.

The enchanting Enchantress.

Thor: Ragnarok is being directed by New Zealand auteur Taika Waititi and may either be the darkest, or goofiest movie in the series. It’s kind of unclear at this point. The movie hits theaters July 28, 2017.
