A Crash Course In Apocalypse’s Powers In ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

Now that the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer has finally been released, we are full steam ahead on the hype train. We got a glimpse of all the new characters (plus a heavy dose of more easter eggs), but obviously, first and foremost, was the titular Apocalypse. We first saw the villain in the after-credits sequence of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, but we really see his powers exhibited in this preview. For the casual viewer, though, what those powers are can be a little confusing. He clearly has the upper-hand against a shapeshifter and a large, furry Manimal, but what is he really capable of?

As quite possibly the first mutant in existence, Apocalypse also stands as one of the most powerful mutants in the entire X-Men universe. Much like Professor X, he can control minds (which is the only explanation of why Charles would ditch his hair and go for the bald look), but he also has genius-level intellect. He’s a brilliant scientist and manipulator of energy and biology. Since merging his body with celestial technology, Apocalypse can alter his form to anything, and it seems like for the trailer, he has taken the form of Ivan Ooze. No human can match his strength and endurance, and his powers can project and absorb energy, making tech-weapons useless. Oh, and his blood kills humans but heals mutants.

Beyond his mutant abilities, he also has the gift of gab and he’s a master schemer, which is clear from all the Ultron-esque talking he did in the trailer. He’s got regeneration chambers to boot just in case his list of powers isn’t enough. Not to mention his posse of Four Horseman that he rides with. So yeah, the School For Gifted Youngsters is kinda screwed.
