We get it. Selling a series like Assassin’s Creed to your average American can be a bit difficult. “So there’s this guy, right, and he gets into a machine, and that puts him in the mind of his ancestors, and he runs around killing people.” “So you play the guy playing the guy?” “Right. Now, here’s a flowchart detailing all the conspiracies…”
I have my criticisms of the series, but the key stumbling block is the story.
So Ubisoft, to promote the game to people who may not be familiar with the series, apparently sat down with its marketing department and brainstormed.
And when that didn’t work, they got wasted and threw this together in the editing bay at the last minute.
Seriously… what the hell IS this? What kind of marketing message are they trying to send here? This ad aired during a football game. I get the whole “AMERICA! F*** YEAH!” tone to the proceedings; that only makes sense, even if the ad itself is disjointed because it’s too busy cutting to stuff blowing up.
But why that music choice? I have no connection whatsoever to popular music so for all I know that’s Pop Bot 9000 or whatever marketing product won the last American Idol, but it’s just…weird. Is that what Ubisoft thinks will appeal to women or something?
It’s still not as bad as the trailer for GUTS, but maybe next time leave the Scotch outside the editing bay, Ubi.

I don’t know what this is supposed to be.
The only thing I see weird is the song choice. I think the tone was “yeah we were in Europe, but but now it’s in America”. I think they could have picked something more exciting, but I think the feel of the whole series is kinda of girly.

I thought the commercial was just as forgettable as any other video game commercial.
Right, they sold it to gamers. I’m guessing that by buying ad time in the first NFL game of the year, Ubisoft is trying to get non-gamers to try it.
the message in the song that was chosen (coming home) is to never back down and never quit, because as long as u dont stop fighting there will be a better tomorrow. which is the exact mentality of an american during this time.

Eh, seems like they got exactly what they were aiming for. It gets internet posts, the people who were going to buy it anyway will still buy it, and it gets talked about a bit by the people that may not have.
I guess they picked the song since this the first AC where both parts of the game, Animus and reality, will take place in the US. Its also going to be the game that finishes Desmond’s story and brings the story full circle or “comes home” if you will.
And you can find Skylar Grey’s vocals on youtube WITHOUT Diddy. Someone was kind enough to remove Diddy and I support that

Uh, I don’t see anything bad about this, and I don’t even like the song. I think it’s just about how the setting has moved to America, and as someone earlier said… Yeah, it’s the same as every video game commercial… Or bad movie trailer… Or bad opening tv music. Like 90% of music choices, especially for big studios, are retarded. Didn’t the AC: Revelations trailer have dub step in it?
And the average American loves AC. I know many non-gamers who talk about how badass “that Altair dude” is.

ok listen you guys are all stupid. the song “coming home” has a message. that message is to not give up because there will be a better tomorrow as long as you keep fighting and never quit. which is the exact mentality of americans during this time. of course if your not american i dont expect u to understand this. anyway the song is perfect and im sorry brits but america won. so sorry if the trailers are offending u but its pretty hard to make a trailer of u guys winning fights if u LOST. no offence. the trailer is sick and the song is perfect. and YES, the game creators ARE trying to appeal to americans because the game will be bought by mostly america.
It’s a stupid song choice if the song you pick does not blend with anything close to the game at hand – great the song has a message I GOT THAT WHEN SHE SAID IM COMING HOME 5 FUCKING TIMES. Also shut up about being American/not who honestly cares. Are you insinuating people still have feelings about what should have happened during the Revolutionary War? In essence, the song does not fit the trailer just slapped in there when they couldn’t come up with something better.
no it did go with the trailer and im not sayin anythin about feelings of the war but alot of people from the UK are complaining about the trailers. and actually listen to the lyrics not just the chorus.

There you have it, the trailer is trying to appeal to doofuses like matjay3, whose knowledge of history comes down to “uh…we won…lolz” with all the depth of understanding of historical contexts that implies. AC3 is targeting exactly that demographic, flag waving morons who are unable to think in anything but black and white.
if the only part of the song u r gonna listen to is “im comin home im comin home tell the world im comin home” and ur gonna post a comment that its supposed to appeal to americans by sayin the game series is finally in america, then ur mad retarded. listen to the actual lyrics like, “let the rain wash away, all the pain from yesterday” which is just proof of my last comment.

Eh, at least it shows lots of game play. Unlike the stupid live action Borderlands 2 commercial that I saw during a game yesterday. That was awful.
