Michael Fassbender Is Already Planning To Stab More Necks In An ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Sequel

Could the Michael Fassbender-starring Assassin’s Creed be our first really good video game movie? Quite possibly. What little we’ve seen of Assassin’s Creed has looked promising, and apparently the movie’s producers think they have a hit on their hands, because they’re already moving ahead on Assassin’s Creed 2.

According to The Tracking Board, Assassin’s Creed 2 will once again star Michael Fassbender, and most of the first movie’s producers are also still attached, including Frank Marshall and Jean-Julien Baronnet. No word on whether Assassin’s Creed director Justin Kurzel will helm the sequel, probably because he’s still busy finishing the first damn movie.

Of course, Hollywood putting the horse before the cart and announcing a sequel (or multiple sequels) to a movie that hasn’t even come out yet is nothing new, but Assassin’s Creed seems like a riskier proposition than most. Video game movies have traditionally disappointed at the box office–the only successes are low-budget affairs like Resident Evil–and the Assassin’s Creed games the movie’s based on are actually skipping 2016 amid declining sales. The Assassin’s Creed movie being a smash is far from a done deal. On the other hand, you can’t go too wrong with Michael Fassbender stabbing guys in the neck.

Assassin’s Creed sneaks into theaters December 21, 2016.
