Is Michael Shannon In ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ Or Not?

Actor Michael Shannon has been having a great deal of fun at the expense of DC Comics fans eagerly awaiting the upcoming release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. That’s because, despite his character’s death at the hands of Superman (Henry Cavill) in Man of Steel, General Zod made an impromptu appearance in the new film’s trailer at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Rumors had already been swirling about the actor’s supposed involvement, but the shot above confirmed it.

Plus, it didn’t really help things when Shannon decided to blatantly lie about being on set with “flippers instead of hands” in August. The anecdote, which he told Vulture during an interview, spread across the Internet like BO at a Marvel movie marathon, ultimately leading some to argue that Shannon was playing a reanimated Zod — perhaps an amalgamated version of Doomsday and Bizarro. Shannon subsequently cleared the rumors up when The Daily Beast asked him about the flippers, saying: “I’m in the trailer for a movie that I didn’t work on… somebody was asking me about this in New York, and I made up some ridiculous bullsh*t answer about how my character Zod has flippers.”

For the love of all that is holy (and not), is Michael Shannon in this goddamn movie or not? WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME ALREADY?

Enter Cinema Blend, who recently asked Shannon whether or not he had any dialogue in Batman v Superman during his press tour for the film 99 Homes. The actor responded in the affirmative:

Yeah, I say some stuff. But not a whole lot! I mean, I am dead. [Laughs] … I’m just like a ghost. It’s kind of like Russell Crowe in the first one. Jor-El. For some reason, these Kryptonian spirits, they linger. Even once you crack my neck, you can’t shut me up.

So, the answer is apparently “yes,” again. Shannon is in Batman v Superman, and he does more than play a corpse in a body bag in the first full trailer for the movie.

Then again, considering all the fun Shannon had with his “flippers” comment, this could be just another lie to satisfy his interviewers. We won’t know for sure until Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
