If Brie Larson does indeed suit up for a run at Captain Marvel as rumors suggested this past week, she’ll indeed have come a long way from when the idea was first floated in her direction. The Oscar-winner for Room was doing press for that movie last year when an MTV interviewer mentioned that she’d be the fan’s choice to take on the role of Carol Danvers.

You’ll have to forgive Larson for not being up on her Marvel character roster. In a video of the interview, Larson is so flummoxed by the idea that she practically blurts out, “but isn’t that a boy?” likely thinking that the woman with whom she’s chatting is mistakenly referring to Captain America… who is indeed a boy.

Larson, after getting things at least slightly straightened out (and relaying that she’d love to play Chris Evans), admits she has no idea who Captain Marvel is before saying, “I guess I gotta start reading the comic book.”

Larson will enter the world of mega-blockbusters in next year’s Kong: Skull Island, a King Kong origin story. Whether that’s a hit is anyone’s guess but one thing that’s certain is that even if it becomes the most lucrative giant ape story of all time, getting into the Marvel Cinematic Universe via one of its most iconic female characters will propel Larson into the movie star stratosphere.
