Chewbacca Returns? ‘Star Wars’ Casting Call Seeks A Familiar Character

Last time we saw a casting breakdown for Star Wars: Episode VII, they were looking for fit teenaged girls and adult males with varied body types and appearances. Typical casually-misogynistic Hollywood casting, in other words. But now Bleeding Cool has spotted a casting call which was sent to agencies specializing in actors of unusual size. No, we won’t be getting a middle-aged giantess with her own ambitions in life, but the casting call does hint at an awesome character who’s much more interesting than those in the last casting breakdown.

Tall Man (Male, 21 – 60) Male, 7 ft to 7.3 ft tall with a slim/thin build and upright posture. Not too worked out or too ‘thick set’ especially in the shoulders. Broad facial features would be a bonus.

That sounds like Chewbacca to me, although it could be another Wookiee. The dates listed on the casting call coincide with the filming of Star Wars: Episode VII, but that doesn’t rule out the same actor appearing in the Han Solo spinoff. Original Chewbacca Peter Mayhew unfortunately can’t reprise the role. The 7’3″ sexagenarian is recuperating from a double knee replacement after being confined to a wheelchair for the past two years.

Not only should Chewbacca be in Episode VII, but he should also be in the Han Solo spinoff and — what the hell — also the next Batman movie.
