Thus far, Daredevil, Jessica Jones and the other characters from Marvel’s gritty Netflix lineup have stuck to their own grim little corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that will change when Avengers: Infinity War arrives. That movie is going to be an all-hands-on-deck situation, featuring almost every established MCU character, including those previously restricted to Netflix.
So, that’s great, right? Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and the rest get to do their hero thing on the big screen! Well, not so fast. In a recent interview, Charlie Cox raised the possibility that the Netflix stars may be re-cast once their characters make the jump to movie screens…
“Marvel TV and Marvel Studios are two very different things. So even if the character were to appear in that film, that doesn’t necessarily mean that I would appear in that film. I will pick a fight with the guy that they choose.”
Cox doesn’t say he’s definitely being re-cast, but it sounds like a possibility. I mean, if the guy had already signed an Infinity War contract, he wouldn’t have even brought it up. We’ve already seen this situation come up on the DC Universe side of things, with Grant Gustin being replaced as The Flash in the Justice League movie.
Of course, we’ve seen actors play the same Marvel characters on both the big screen and TV – Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter and Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson immediately come to mind. Then again, those were relatively minor characters, which were established in movies first before jumping to television. Daredevil is a more iconic character, and if Marvel can convince an A-list actor to step into the red pajamas for Infinity War, I wouldn’t be surprised if Charlie Cox was left by the wayside.
Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to hit theaters with or without Charlie Cox on May 4, 2018.
