Late last year, it was revealed that Mads Mikkelsen would be doing that villain thing he does so well in Doctor Strange, but no information was given on which bad guy he’d be portraying. Well, now we have a first glimpse of Mikkelsen in his Doctor Strange makeup and, well, we still don’t really know who he’s playing.

Mikkelsen himself posted this coverage just hours ago

Whoa, that’s a whole lotta look. The Internet, usually quick to unravel any comic book movie-related mystery, has yet to come up with any sort of definitive answer as to who Mikkelsen could be. There are a few hints – the pinkish skin tone, the odd tied-back hairstyle, the fact that Mikkelsen’s skin seems to be breaking away around his eyes to reveal something underneath.

Who is Mikkelsen playing? Marvel has vaguely described him a sorcerer who breaks away from the Ancient One and forms his own sect. That sounds a lot like Baron Mordo, except of course we already know Chiwetel Ejiofor is playing Mordo. So who does that leave? Those eyes hint that Mikkelsen, in the form we see above, is merely a shell for some other, greater force. One of Doctor Strange’s many demonic adversaries? Dormammu perhaps? Mephisto? Complicating matters, other shots from the Doctor Strange set have shown a female character sporting the same look as Mikkelsen. Mephisto does have a female counterpart named Mephista. Hmmmm.

What do you think of Mikkelsen’s look? Have any wild theories of yours about who he could be playing? Hit the comments and let’s sort this thing out.
