The Last Of Us gets a prequel, Kill Shakespeare gets weird(er), and Andy Diggle and Jock deliver more hitman shenanigans in the books we’re most anticipating this week.
The Last Of Us: American Dreams #1This book fills in the backstory of Ellie, Joel’s sidekick in Naughty Dog’s upcoming game about jerks in Pittsburgh and fighting mushroom people.
Written by the game’s creative director, Neil Druckmann, and drawn by Faith Erin Hicks, who you might know from Demonology 101, apparently Ellie is packed off to military school in the opening chapter, only to discover the outside world. Dark Horse tends to do well with video game adaptations, and this seems to be up to their usual high standards. Also, anything drawn by Hicks is a pretty much automatic sale as far as we’re concerned, so we’re in the bag, either way.
Kill Shakespeare: Tide Of Blood #2Andy Berlanger, the artist on this comic you should have been reading when it came out last month, hands in our favorite cover this week, a riff on a line from The Tempest. And the book itself promises to be just as good: After a strong first issue, the book is coming to Prospero’s isle, and that… likely is not going to end well. We can’t wait to see how.
Snapshot #3 And finally we’ve got Andy Diggle and Jock’s dark, twisty story of a nerd versus a hitman. Snapshot has taken some surprising twists in just two issues, and Jock is clearly loving the creative freedom with his work. We’ve been waiting for this issue for a month, which should tell you all you need to know.
