Edgar Wright Wants An Anna Kendrick ‘Squirrel Girl’ Movie

Recently, adorable mind-blower Anna Kendrick said she’d love to play offbeat Marvel superhero Squirrel Girl, and we were sold. But it wasn’t just us. Director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) also liked the idea. On Wednesday, he pointed out that several Scott Pilgrim actors have gone on to do superhero movies, and it’s time another member of the cast got to bust some nuts. (I’m sorry.)

Anna Kendrick noticed the compliment:

There was a fun back and forth after that:

Wright: In this movie you have to fight all those other characters. Deal?

Kendrick: Fight? Or Defeat?

Wright: Defeat.

Kendrick: So I have to fight (defeat) seven previous characters… Any movie suggestions for inspo??

Wright: The one where George Michael & Max Fischer have a fight. I forget the name.

Several outlets noticed the initial tweet, of course, and wrote about it as if it were a movie that might be in the works, prompting Wright to say, “I mean. It was just the one tweet, but sure.”

Kendrick replied, in full recognition of the inevitability behind this news cycle, “Oh clearly you don’t understand how this works. You’re in it now.”

Wright replied, “I’m going to sleep. Buzz me if it ends on CNN or something.” He also joked, “I will not rest until the whole cast of ‘Scott Pilgrim’ are superheroes in other movies. (Except I have to go to sleep now. Night.)”

Well, if Marvel ever hires — err, re-hires — Edgar Wright to direct a Kendrick-starring Squirrel Girl movie (won’t happen, but we can dream), we also have a potential co-star in the works:

AntzTowler: Can The Rock be a squirrel?

Wright: Sure, you’re down aren’t you @TheRock?

SQUIRREL GIRL STARRING ANNA KENDRICK AND THE ROCK, DIRECTED BY EDGAR WRIGHT. Consider our minds blown.
