Fantastic Four may have lost a bunch of money, and it may have led to a “come at me, bro” argument between director Josh Trank and actor Miles Teller, and, sure, Kate Mara hasn’t even watched it and joked about it flopping, but at least the guy who played Doctor Doom learned a valuable lesson. That’s something, right? It can’t all be doom and doooooom.

Toby Kebbell, who played Doom, spoke to IGN about the film’s poor box office performance. He kept it very polite, but you can still feel the dejection and frustration he must have dealt with on that hectic production and subsequent career costs. If you don’t want to watch the video above, here are a few of the choice quotes, as transcribed in full by Comic Book Movie:

“I was disappointed, but the fans aren’t wrong. The fans want what they want to see and if they don’t get satisfaction, they let you know. […] I felt like the film was going to go well. It didn’t turn out that the fans felt that way, so their reaction is honest, I can only appreciate honesty.”

He says he at least learned something from the experience. Now he knows “when I see something I don’t agree with, to voice that immediately.” And he explained the harsh way Hollywood taught him this lesson:

“A film like that comes out, and I’m being sent maybe four scripts in a week, and those scripts go to zero when it doesn’t come out successful, so that actively affects my career. I think it’s vitally important that if there’s a problem on set, that it’s voiced and we solve it there and I think that collaboration is very important. Not to say that didn’t happen on set, but the collaboration is vital and if we don’t do that, then we suffer.”

Four scripts a week to zero? Damn, that’s cold. And I don’t think anyone who saw Fantastic Four would have blamed Kebbell for any of it. He must be really watching the fan response to the Warcraft movie he’s starring in next. If that doesn’t go well, at least we’ll always remember him as the mo-capped star of one of the greatest GIFs of all-time…
