Follow The Path Of Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber From ‘The Phantom Menace’ To ‘The Force Awakens’

SPOILER WARNING: There are some spoilerish visuals from Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the video above, so press play with care.

So the mystery behind Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber in The Force Awakens has yet to be solved, but we do know whose hands it ended up in by the end of the movie. To get to that point, the sword took quite a journey with some twists and turns we don’t get to see in the video above.

What we do see is connect where we last saw the blade at the end of The Empire Strikes Back, to its discovery in the bowels of Maz Kanata’s castle in The Force Awakens. There’s even a few glimpses of its origins in the prequel trilogy, showing audiences that this lightsaber has been around for quite a while and still works perfectly.

Now technically the saber does not appear in The Phantom Menace, but it acts more to set the stage for what’s to come. Anakin Skywalker doesn’t actually get his hands on this lightsaber until The Clone Wars, losing it at the end during his fight with Obi Wan. The Kenobi keeps it in a box until Luke comes a calling, putting the original trilogy into motion.

It might not be too deep, but it does give a thread to connect all of the movies together one path. What would’ve made it better is if we added some digitally inserted Gungans to all of the films. That’s what we’re missing for sure.

And on a related note, Christopher Sherwood also uploaded this fine clip that calls back to an earlier post to this weekend.
