George Clooney Is Basically The Rusty Venture Of ‘Tomorrowland’

OK, so Clooney is not technically playing Rusty Venture. On the other hand, when we say the words “a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment”, tell us the first thing that pops into your head isn’t everyone’s favorite sociopathic “super”-“scientist.” So that should make Tomorrowland a lot more interesting, even if Angie from Under The Dome is in it.

Despite the involvement of Brad Bird, we haven’t been covering this movie very closely. For my part, if I’m being honest, it’s because of all the twee mystery box BS surrounding the discussion of the movie so far. It’s from the guy who made The Incredibles and The Iron Giant. You don’t need to screw around with the mystery box, just tell us the plot. Which Disney now has!

Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as “Tomorrowland.”

So basically, it’s Up with, most likely, giant robots and ray guns instead of talking dogs? Is there a recursive GIF that could sum up the feelings of any normal person hearing that pitch?

OK, so there is a caveat in that Damon Lindelhof co-wrote this, but so what? Brad Bird is amazing, and the pitch itself is amazing. Now Britt Robertson just needs to not be locked in Tomorrowland’s basement and we’ll have a stew going.
