Groot Gets The Savior Treatment In This Very Artistic Deleted Scene From ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’

On the whole, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was a mostly happy experience, a funny, exciting, totally unique spin from on a comic book hero tale that thrilled audiences. But if there were any slightly sad threads to be found, one involved the living tree character Groot, voiced by Vin Diesel. Groot, if you recall, wound up sacrificing his own life to save his fellow Guardians and while we were treated to his second coming in the form of a baby, dancing little sapling late in the game, it seems director James Gunn wanted to lend a little extra heft to Groot’s demise.

In a post on Gunn’s Facebook page, he shares a still shot from a sequence that would have depicted Groot’s Last Supper. Yeah, that Last Supper.

The scene, which was ultimately deleted and never received its finished set of effects, probably was better off being cut given that the foreshadowing it would have provided into Groot’s fate would have lessened its impact. But isn’t it cool how much more of a view we get into Gunn’s complete vision through this post? Makes you even more pumped for Guardians, Vol. 2, doesn’t it?
