James Gunn Has A Good Reason For Not Putting The ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’ Comic-Con Footage Online

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 was Marvel’s most popular movie at their Comic-Con panel last weekend, but despite learning who Kurt Russell is playing and a multitude of details, one thing we haven’t seen is the footage Hall H attendees got to watch. And we won’t be seeing it any time soon, but while that’s a bummer, there’s a good reason.

James Gunn, a big fan of streaming himself, took to Facebook Live to explain to disappointed fans that basically, the footage isn’t ready for wide consumption. At least, not yet.

…the footage released at Comic-Con will eventually be seen by the public, but in a more finished form. It’s very early days. We’ve only been shooting for a month [and] we presented an entire, huge, scene with Yondu and Rocket and Baby Groot, and then we also presented a special glimpse, just for San Diego Comic-Con, a teaser trailer of sorts.

Considering how much effects work goes into a movie like this, it’s hard to fault Gunn or Marvel from holding off until said effects are finished. As for when we’ll see that trailer, though, likely we won’t have to wait very long. With Luke Cage arriving in September, Agents of SHIELD debuting in October, and Doctor Strange coming in November, Marvel’s got a bunch of opportunities to roll out the trailer. Doctor Strange is the most likely candidate for a trailer debut, but keep your eyes open. Baby Groot and Rocket will be on screen before we know it.
