Looking ahead at Marvel Studios’ upcoming slate, there’s definitely more question marks surrounding Inhumans than any of their other projects. We’re not sure who’s going to be directing, writing or starring in the movie (aside from maybe Vin Diesel) or how exactly it will tie in with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Late last year there were even rumors the film may be canceled.
Well, Collider recently managed to pry some Inhumans information out of Marvel big boss Kevin Feige. The good news? Inhumans is still happening. The bad news? They’re being pushed out of the way by more important Disney projects, most notably the new Indiana Jones:
“Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we added Spider-Man, which was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for us. Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date that it’s on right now. How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet. (We’re still doing Inhumans) it’s a question of when.”
As of now, Inhumans is scheduled for June 12, 2019, but based on Feige’s words, expect it to slip to 2020 or possibly even later.
Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Inhumans is, eventually, quietly canceled. I just don’t know if the MCU needs another superteam, especially one as obscure and vaguely defined as the Inhumans. Yeah, I know Guardians of the Galaxy did well, but that was all James Gunn, and I don’t think he’ll be directing Inhumans.
