Things have been back and forth for Iron Fist, as rumors abounded it was going to be a movie or even put aside altogether in favor of The Punisher. Fortunately, it looks like it’s going full steam ahead, as they’ve just cast Iron Fist himself, a face familiar to Game of Thrones fans.
According to EW, Finn Jones, also known as Loras Tyrell, has been cast as Danny Rand, the industrialist who also happens to have beaten up a dragon once. There’s been some speculation about how they might tweak Rand, including casting an Asian-American actor, but it looks like they won’t be changing much from the comics. That said, the new Daredevil trailer shows Marvel is taking a more grounded and less trippy approach to mysticism, at least on Netflix, so one assumes Iron Fist will reflect that.
The main question is when we’ll see him. Luke Cage might possibly work in a cameo, although it doesn’t seem there’s time for much more than that as the show has been filming for a while, and will wrap soon. It also raises the question of whether he’s going to run around in that bright green and yellow suit, because if he is, Luke should be wearing the tiara.

This. I want Luke and Danny to be like partners in a Shane Black movie (Riggs/Murtaugh, Joe Hallenbeck/Jimmy Dix, or Harry Lockhart/Gay Perry)
Ive only seen the guy on GoT, but I really hope he’s got (and they go with) strong comedic timing. DD, JJ, and im assuming Luke Cage are to be lauded in their “earthiness”, but goddamn we need a spider-manesque banterer to light the mood for Defenders
We got Luke saying “Sweet Christmas” already. No need to get greedy with the tiara. Also. in the newest Daredevil trailer, my first thought at the giant hole in the ground was “Is Fin Fang Foom down there?”

Mostly what I’ve seen are snarky comments on Twitter, but it all depends on the execution.
It’s funny, half of that thread is “this is how it is in the comics, it’s actually the point, and making him Asian would the ‘Asian kung-fu master’ trope.” in other words, people want to be offfended/complain, they just are sure about what.
Honestly, as long as he wasn’t black (which would take away the interracial buddy comedy) or Chinese (which would take away the Kun Lun outsider theme), I’m cool with whatever race. Latino would have been cool.
Non-Chinese Asian would have been great, actually. Explore how within Asian cultures there’s some hostility to outsiders, even though they’re all the same to us white people.
Middle Eastern would have been great just for the sheer butthurt it would cause.

Marvel has yet to let me down with casting choices, especially when it comes to the Netflix universe. I just hope they don’t water down the mystical elements. Between Crane Mother in season 1 of DD, the Hand obviously being a huge part of season 2, and whatever they are doing with that hole in the ground…we better see Danny plunge his hands into the dragon’s molten heart.
