Last December we mentioned Jason Momoa (AKA Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones) was in negotiations for a role in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Then we reported the role was for Aquaman when HitFix posted an update in June. Now Variety reports Jason Momoa has officially signed to play Aquaman in multiple movies, with Justice League following shortly after Batman V Superman.
This casting was a forgone conclusion, with the long-running negotiations and Momoa being spotted at the rock climbing gym near the Detroit set of the movie where Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) has also been working out. And just last week director Zack Snyder was calling in to a Detroit radio show to defend Aquaman. He claimed Aquaman “has some cool abilities”, saying “he’s Triton so you have to realize that could cut the flesh of Superman if they came in contact. That’s a thing that’s in the canon. He’s super strong cause of course he can exist at these super deep depths so when he comes up here he’s crazy strong.” If it were someone besides Khal freaking Drogo, we’d have a hard time believing that.
