Between Daredevil and Jessica Jones, Marvel is building a rich TV universe arguably better than the one it’s got up on screens. And it appears to only be adding to it with Luke Cage. Seriously, check out the trailer above, and see if you don’t agree.
There’s plenty to love about this trailer, from Luke in his fancy tiara in the opening as we see his origin, to all sorts of nods in the trailer from a photo of Biggie in Cornell Stokes’ office to Luke reading one of Walter Mosley’s Easy Rawlins mysteries. And, of course, there’s that soundtrack. Probably the most interesting touch, though, is how Marvel is making the series stand out: It appears that Luke is going fully public with his identity, which seems to have some pretty nasty consequences and changes the dynamic of his heroism.
As far as ties to the larger Marvel Netflix verse, the big one appears to be Claire Temple, with Rosario Dawson being all over this trailer. But considering how things are going, we’ll bet that at the very least Jessica Jones will be making an appearance, and Luke will likely, at one point, need a good lawyer. We’ll find out soon enough, as Luke Cage premieres September 30.
