Mark Millar is notable for many personality traits, diplomacy not being one of them. And self-awareness also not being one of them, either, considering his recent remarks on Fantastic Four and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Millar’s thrown shade at his former employers in the past, but this is, well, let’s start with what he says about Fantastic Four to IGN:
It’s a shame because I think elements of it were good. Some bits were good. I remember the first half in particular works well. [Director Josh Trank] is brilliant. Chronicle was my favorite superhero movie in 2012 — and be reminded Avengers was out that year. I really love Chronicle. It’s just a shame sometimes things don’t work out as planned.
And now, Marvel:
Marvel doesn’t always work out great — Thor 2 didn’t work out especially well, Iron Man 2 didn’t work. But then Iron Man 3 comes along and it’s great. These things can be uneven sometimes. Avengers 2 is nowhere near as good as Avengers 1.
Just as a reminder, the latest Fantastic Four is, out of 40 movies based on Marvel’s comics, No. 31 at the worldwide box office. The 2005 movie is at No. 24, if you were wondering. Really, at this point, all you can do is just bury it out back with a modest gravestone and hope nobody ever wants to talk about it ever again.
While Millar’s assessment isn’t wrong, context is everything here. Maybe just focus on the X-Men for a while, guys.
