No Man’s Sky is slowly becoming an actual game, instead of just a set of promises. And this new trailer, focused on just what you do in the game, underlines just how ambitious it is.
If you haven’t been following the Hello Games title, the game puts you in the boots of a freelance explorer. Everything, from weapons to the animals you scan to the ships you fly, is procedurally generated, so that it’s all unique. The same is true of the space battles, asteroid fields, and other stuff you’ll find in space when you’re not busy exploring planets.
Of course, this still doesn’t clarify the ultimate goal of the game. Or whether it even has a goal, short of “Explore and/or potentially shoot things, like other explorers.” But perhaps being a xenobiologist simulator is its own reward. Hey, at least you get some guns to use on the alien wildlife you don’t like.
