Olivia Munn did a lot of preparation to play Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse, but ultimately she got to show off more swordplay on Instagram than on the silver screen. Still, the door is left wide open for Psylocke to turn up elsewhere, and Munn knows exactly where she should appear.
Asked by USA Today where she’d like to see Psylocke turn up next, Munn noted that there appears to be a few openings on the X-Force:
“It would definitely be cool to see Deadpool and some of the other X-Men characters gather for an X-Force movie. I think that’s what the whole world is coming to — everybody unites together, right?”
It makes sense, on both a comics level and on a general movie level. Munn and Reynolds play off each other well as we’ve seen, and the rumored R-rating Fox will allow in the wake of Deadpool‘s box office records would let Psylocke do more with her swords than just slice cars in half. It’s worth noting that X-Men: Apocalypse is rather ambivalent about where she’s at by the end of the movie. Psylocke could just as easily be a foe of the X-Force, at least at first.
Of course, for any of this to happen, it has to be announced. There are certainly plans for Deadpool — who beat the odds to become Fox’s highest grossing superhero this year — to keep invading theaters, but X-Force doesn’t have a script yet. Still, we hope Psylocke gets another chance. There’s no movie that isn’t improved with swordfights.
