Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Movie by Takashi Miike is a Real Thing and We’ve Got the Footage to Prove It

A Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney movie directed by infamous Japanese horror auteur Takashi Miike? It may sound like a leftover April Fools’ joke, but believe it or not, this is actually happening.

Of course, the films of Takashi Miike and Capcom’s Ace Attorney video game franchise both fall squarely under the “weird stuff from Japan” category, but they’re both weird in their own special way. For instance, Miike so far hasn’t made a movie where the characters spend half their time screaming “OBJECTION!” at one another, and the Ace Attorney games have traditionally shied away from the graphic mutilation and vomit-eating fans expect of a Takashi Miike production. Can these two unique flavors combine to make a delicious sundae? A delicious shouty, bloody sundae? Check out the first footage from the movie after the break and decide for yourself.

Miike certainly looks to be staying loyal to the source material, with all the ridiculous hairstyles and costumes from the games seemingly intact. Oh, and by the way, this video is from a Japanese talk show — the actual movie won’t feature a little window in the bottom-left corner of the screen filled with loudly nattering Japanese people. At least we don’t think it will.
