In Which We Try To Say Something Nice About The ‘R.I.P.D.’ Trailer

The first trailer is out for R.I.P.D., based on the Peter M. Lenkov comic and directed by Robert Schwentke (Red). Ryan Reynolds stars as a recently-deceased cop who is recruited for the Rest in Peace Department, which hunts down ghosts, demons, and ghouls hiding in the world of the living. Jeff Bridges is a grizzled gunslinger from the Old West and will also play one in this film. He’s Reynolds’ veteran partner on the R.I.P.D. and is seen kissing Mary-Louise Parker in set photos below. No context for that. Don’t need any. Jeff Bridges is a charismatic dude. If you don’t think so, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

The trailer does a pretty good job showing the Men In Black and Hellboy vibe of R.I.P.D., opening July 19th. Whether or not you actually want to see it is arguable. We’ll also have to wait and see how main villain Kevin Bacon will be portrayed in this.

Also rounding out the cast are Marisa Miller and James Hong, who play the human bodies Bridges and Reynolds inhabit while on duty. As we said last year, how are we supposed to believe The Dude will be inside Marisa Miller’s body and it doesn’t turn into a two-hour shower scene? Suspension of disbelief only goes so far.
